      Hi Tom,
Beautiful and rare mayer S-boot, great find, congrats!
The faded finish looks as usual and I like it very much and at least you can be pretty sure it was not refinished
Here is my Destroyer, also faded in the same manner.
      Cheers,
      Hubert

        Hello Hubert,

          Tom,

Congratulations on the auction win... I may have bid against you once or twice for this and other things, it was a fun auction to be bidding on - a lot of things went for higher than my max though!

Again, congratulations on this rare beauty!

            Hi Josh,

I figured you would be bidding, as I saw you had posted several of the auction lots on the forum for comments. There were some really nice items in the auction and most of the items were real, which is unusual for an auction. I was hoping to get a few items but, as you said, everything got bid up pretty well. This S-boat Badge was the only item I was successful in winning.

            Thank you & best regards,
            Tom

A very nice and rare badge Tom.

These zinc 2nd pattern L/18 S-Boat awards can also be found with a vertical pin set up and are equally as hard to find.

I think all L/18 marked zinc KM awards are hard to find, now that i think of it.

I am fortunate to have this little L/18 gem and it is only one of two that i know of in collections.

              Anyway,congratulations on getting the S-Boat.

              Regards,Martin.

Yes, I agree a rare auction with a very nice number of original items (probably why I was asking about so many - I was surprised!) I also only got 1 item - The Blockade Runner in case... It's still in the mail and should be here in about a week (has to cross the boarder to Canada).

                Best,
                Josh

                  Hello Josh,

That Blockade Runner set was one of the nicest items in the whole auction. The condition is superb and I don't think you could find a nicer example anywhere. Congratulations! I didn't give you any competition on that item as my wife and I had to leave the house before that one came up for bids. I think you got it for a fair price.

                  Best regards,
                  Tom

                    Hello Martin,

Thanks for posting that Auxiliary Cruiser Badge. Another gem for sure. I like the streaking to the Viking Ship and globe. And your badge actually has a lot of un-faded gold finish.

                    Best regards,
                    Tom

Since we're on the topic of L/18 zincers...

                      Best regards,

P.S. BTW, where was this auction anyway?

                          Hi Norm,

                          Gems, gems, and more gems.

Well, Norm, it certainly wasn't Manion's. Hee hee!

The auction was Affiliated Auctions & Realty, out of Tallahassee, Florida. You can access them through www.proxibid.com

Uh, I think I might be cutting my own throat here.

                          Best regards,
                          Tom

Still 90% of the items through proxi are junk! This auction must have been from a serious collector done with his collection - he did VERY well... I think some of the fake items (ie: the 25 PAB I asked about here, which was fake sold for $750: CLICK) perhaps it fooled some people being mixed in with the good. There were a couple other items like this as well...

Anyways, always a fun experience when you can bid on good items - and I agree, I think I did okay since a similar blockade sold on estand for about 1100E.

How true! Auctions are definitely not a good idea for the new/inexperienced collector. But if you know your hobby and have the patience to seek out the good stuff amongst the ocean of crap, it can really be worth the effort.

                              Best regards,

                                I agree Tom.

It is great to see all of these L/18 zincers in one thread.

                                Thanks guys.

                                Martin.
