Patronenkasten 34 and 41: need to learn.

    Hello,

I'm going to sell the last pieces of my collection, so, since a novice about this kind of stuff, so, I would like to learn a bit and try to understand differences between good ones and post-war or fakes (Yugoslavian for istance).

This is so far what I did learn:

PK 34, pre-war production up to 1941, made in alluminnium or steel, often with Waffenamt and codes.
PK 41, started in 1941, always in steel always painted in Dunkel-gelb (tropical yellow): no Waffenamt but often codes.

Would you add somethin interesting to put in archive?
Any suggestion about detection of post-wars?

    I have also some question:

-I have a 34 painted in Feldgrau but I can see a dark red colour underneath....is that some sort of camo?
-I have also a 41, that seems marked "uda" but I cannot find it as factory code...any clue?

I can post pictures if needed.
    Many Thanks

I'll make a couple quick points....Dunkelgelb is often confused by many to be Tropical paint, or the word "tropical" is used in the description, the correct description is Ordnance Tan, Dunkelgelb...

The Red you see under the field grey is primer, a red oxide primer. Red Oxide was the common color primer used as a "base coat" prior to the appiication of the field gray.

Many of the Patronenkasten 34 cans are actually Polish or other origin, so you have to be careful there. Many cans have a Pistachio Green ugly color over them, that is the post-war yugo paint. The Yugoslavians painted over everything with it, and they also manufactured a lot of equipment postwar that on first look can seem to be original German....

          Thanks!
So, I'll post some pictures of the 34 then.

Just a question: do you confirm that 41 only came in ordnance Dunkelgelb?

Hello, I've heard people say that the Dunkelgelb=European yellow. What is RAL code of this paint? I need to paint rusty PK.
Was "red base coat" on steel PK34 every?

Mine is 43 dated with a Waffenamt.

BTW, does anyone know when they stopped using the leather tabs on the handles ?

I'm sure that many of those Polish or Czech ammo cans might be legit in a WWII collection, as germans captured and reissued great ammount of their military equipment, but must not be confused with original German made items. The question would be: were the same models produced pre and post war? Do all captured items have a WaA?.
