    SS Allgemeine Visor Cap (Early)

    Hi,
I got this yesterday. An old time collector friend told me he had this cap years ago, I mentioned that if he ever sold it to please keep me in mind. I had forgotten all about the cap and imagine my surprise when he offered it to me yesterday at a gun show we were set up at.
I payed him what he requested and now I have my first piece of SS headgear in my collection. This cap came from the veteran years ago just the way it is, Unfortunately the chinstrap was broken.
Thanks for your opinions and comments.

                      ok

I think it's a good one!! I think the eagle was replaced. Looks like it has a lot more wear then the outside of cap. Thats ok!

                          Thanks guys.

Always nice to hear some positive feed back when you add something new to your collection. I think because these early privet purchase caps are uncommon many collectors don't come across them often.

I am far away from reference books.

Just by chance, is the Deutsche Industrie label mentioned in Wilkins' book?

                              Cap

The cap certainly appears authentic, and has a gorgeous profile. These early caps are, to me, far more preferable to the "blocked" looking later ones. I wonder about the sweatband, though. If it came directly from the veteran, it must be repaired. If not, I question if the sweatband may have been replaced. And if it did, indeed, come directly from a vet, I wouldn't be so quick to replace the non-SS eagle. Great looking cap!!!
