Kriegsmarine - Can you ID this?

I hope that this is the right place to discuss this item. This item looks like some sort of ID tag and it has a hole for suspension. It is made of aluminum and measures 1 3/16 inches in diameter. The reverse side is plain. What does the letters EB designate? Does anyone have any ideas of what this item might be? Thank you in advance for any help........Harry C

Sorry Harry, first time that I have seen something like this. If I find anything about it I will contact you.

Looks nice, and if anytime you want to sell it let me know .

Looks like a tag to hang around pipes or electrical cables to ID them afterwards.

        Same kind of discs

        Hi

I have the same kind of discs from the Lorient U-boat bunker.
On these ones, there are U-boot numbers!!!

Two from the U172 and one from the U163.

        Regards
        Ben

            more

Here tags from the same Lorient U-boot / u-boat bunker:

One from the U155 before cleaning

After a good cleaning with acid

One from the U511 before cleaning

After a good cleaning with acid

A last one from the U518

I think these discs or plates were used to mark U-boat parts coming or returning from the repair shops in the base.

It could be interested to move this thread to the "Kriegsmarine War and Qualification Badges" forum.

            Regards
            Ben

              Research

I'm not sure how to move the thread to another forum but I would like to see if there is any more information about these tags. Maybe someone else has some examples to share. Any guess to the meaning of EB on my tag or the 4229 numeration? The U boot tags are great because no doubt they had an association to a specific submarine. Any other thoughts??.........Harry C

                  Dear Ben,

                  Concerning your tags.

                  U155, STB Steuerbord - Starboard.
                  U511, BB Backboard - Port-side.

I think that those tags were used during maintenance and repairs.

                  yours friendly
