Tauchpanzer IV in Russia late summer 1941

With the help of Jürgen and Akira I was able to identify this Pz.IV http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=222108
as a Tauchpanzer. The tactical markings place the tank to the 10.Pz.Div. I did not know that this division employed Tauchpanzer, does any one have more info on this?
    .

    Thanks again, Hardy

Being a Tauchpanzer is most easily recognized by the outer rim of the turret front to install waterproof seal. Various distinguishing features were analyzed by gentlemen at Missing Lynx forum but unfortunately I don't have the URL handy.

I haven't researched about the deployment of Tauch's in 1941, maybe Jürgen?

4.PD and 18.PD is most well known but also photos are known from 3, 10 PD. I hope someone can give us more details.

Here "1001" from 3.PD in action.

                10.pd

The book "The 10.Panzer-Division" from J.Restayn and N.Moller, published by Fedorowicz has a picture on page 136 with 7 Pz IV, two of them identifiable as Ausf E Tauchpanzer. Also on page 156 is vehicle 412, another Tauchpanzer.

                  Hi All!

Beside the "Tauchpanzers" fof the 18.PD I can identify this other units, which had them in use:

                  I./PzRgt.35 ( 2.Co.)
                  I./PzRgt.36 (1. and 2. Co)
                  PzRgt.6
                  PzRgt.7 (3. and 4. Co)

If I am right the (Tauch) PzAbt. A.,B., and D. formed the PzRgt.18. PzAbt. C goes (I do not know why) to several other divisions ( Tessin says, it becomes first I./PzRgt.28, than went as III./PzRgt.6 to the 3.PD).

Sorry , I goes never really deep into the history about this units. But I think there is a good chance for research in the Bundesarchiv or NARA material!

One special note for Akira: If you have the Book of the 10.PD from Restayn/Moller you can find the "412" again on page 156, beside some other "Tauchpanzer" pictures in this book.

And you remember, there is a picture out of an album of an member of the 9.PD, which shows an Tauchpanzer III too?

Hope this helps a little bit.

                  Cheers

                  J******252;rgen

Larry, I remember those scans (or I believe so!) from 14.PD. Thank you for sharing.

Attached is the photo of Pz III Jürgen mentioned - it is one of the best photo to show the turret ring seal. This photo was found in an album of A.A.9 but you know... There are cases of collector insertion (not likely in this case, in my opinion) and also wrecks of neighbor units are also possible.

The turret number is black outlined, so you can make a good guess!
