    wood handle

    Hello just wondering what is recommended to keep either SA or SS dagger handles moisturized to prevent drying of wood.oil,wax?
    thanks for any advice.

    Most will suggest that you simply leave the wood alone....I have friends who deal in VERY old antique furniture who use either Tung Oil or Linseed Oil on dried wood, and they swear by it's restorative properties.....One of those friends uses a combination of items from THIS website.

    I have no affiliation with this site. I'm simply passing it along for informational purposes...I am siding with those who suggest leaving it alone, although I have used RenWax to coat the wood handles of the SA Daggers that I own.

          I agree with Chris. I thought I would chime in here on this topic of treating wood. This debate has been going on for as long as man has been working with wood. The minute the tree is cut, and the wood is kiln dried is down hill for the wood. All wood has cell structures. Once the cells are dried out they can not be brought back to life. There is no magic formula to restore the elasticity of the wood. I have been in the field on conservation for some time. I have not ever heard or seen a formula to restore wood to what it use to be. If there was such a formula like this that actually worked. The field of conservation would be all over it. The debate over how to restore wood is like the leather debate. It goes on, and on. Best advice use ren wax. Keep the wood out of sun. Keep the humidity levels even. keep it away from extreme temp. Paul
