    Unidentified "Westland" SS-Untersturmführer

    Hi,

i wanted to know if some members may help me to identify this "famous" SS-Untersturmführer from the "Westland" Regiment ?

It is not know when the picture was taken.
It was published in spring 1943 in the front cover of the "Dat's 'N Leven Van Stavast" small poster / flyer and in the "In 'T Verleden Ligt Het Heden" book.

It is not known if the officer is dutch (doubtful ?) or german.

The tunic of this officer has :
    - a "Westland" cufftitle
    - a Wehrmacht NCO/officer eagle
    - an EK 1
    - an infantery assault badge (bronze or silver ?)
    - a black wound badge (?)
    - a two place ribbon bar (can you help me on this one ?)

    See You

Dutch, I guess. Many Dutchmen in Westland.

      Hi,

the problem is that the guy seemed to have a specific military background, and it seemed that very few dutch officers served in the "Wiking", and not a lot won the EK 1. If i have the time i will check the listings of John Moore.

NOTA : interesting to see that it is a "good looking" officer from the "Westland" ("Wiking") that is used to promote the SS-Freiwilligen-Legion « Niederlande » that will become at the end of the year the 4. SS-Freiwilligen-Panzergrenadier-Brigade « Nederland ».

      See You

If that's indeed a Prague Castle bar on his ( IMO 3 place ) ribbon bar , it would indicate a German ( like most of the cadre would be ) - not a volunteer from any country .
The sleeve eagle could also indicate some earlier VT history ..

Yes I see a three piece bar, with EKII, Westwall? and Prague castle bar. I have always like that flyer and this photo.
