    Wegener Heer Pith dated 1942

Just picked this up in trade...
    My first pith.
I haven't been able to find much on this maker for piths?

    Thanks for looking,
    -Brian

Another un-issued surplus 2nd pattern, likely from the horde found in Naples.

I thought most of those were maker JF S.? Is this Wegener seen very often? I was unable to find another example like this one in my searches.

        Hi Brian

I've not seen a Wegener before either, but constuction is quite similar to the JHS and other makers too. There were over 40 different tropical cap/helmet makers during the War. Thousands of surplus 2nd pattern helmets were found in Naples, so there were many different makers represented in the cache.

Nice helmet if you like un-issued items, but do pick up a salty faded 1st pattern that has been in Afrika, Here's a thread on one of mine....

Very nice original one!! Congrats! Still searching for a Wegener myself

The company produced 1st and 2nd pattern pith helmets during the war. I attached an original add from the company.

Thanks guys. Upon closer inspection it seems the Adler shield may have been replaced. It's thicker and a different type than the tri-color... and doesn't sit as flat against the cap.

So I will be on the search for an exact matching shield!

Glad I've got one that's at least a bit harder to find maker than the super common ones.
