One more point worth discussing about the tunic that started this thread,

it has Continental collar tabs with the mid-war dark bottle green colour combined with the mouse grey. These have been sewn directly to the collar.

Some close up images of these would be useful to check if the sewing is correct.

It is very unusual to get WH Continental collar tabs on a WH tropical tunic ???

I missed this post while I was replying to Mark.

And the question I am asking, if they made WH tropical uniforms from it before May 1945 then did they make the WH tropical boards from the off-cuts ?

It will be interesting to see if anyone else posts other WH tropical uniform items made from this type of cloth,

No problem Chris..I am used to rejection.

It makes sense to me that shoulder straps would be made of this fabric as well.

And while I don't have any tropical tunics made of this fabric or maker (I have seen a half dozen or so that were) I can post a photo of an original Heer M-44 that I used to own from the same maker as the tropical tunic that started this thread, using a tan cotton tropical type lining material and is described in a recent book on German uniforms as a "sand coloured poplin" fabric in the books M-44 section.

          Thanks Glenn,

very interesting and it confirms the maker. Excellent M44 tunic and a good point about the "poplin" lining. I have also seen it used in late war uniform items.

          Best regards,

          Chris

I was able to see the set today and the pants are the same color as the jacket. Thanks for all of your comments. This was a good education for me

                  Hi Chris,
Good discussion about the straps, and I have no problem with your set. Have you tried Allied coat material for colour matching...?
I don't think the tunic that started the thread has continental litzen - I believe the angle and flash has accentuated the darker - almost copper - bars seen on many rayon insignia. The backing is definitely powder blue on my screen.
                  Cheers!

Thank you for reminding me. The collar tabs are definitely a light blue color with deep copper center stripes.

The tunic and pants that started the thread are one look originals to me. No problem with that material at all.

You see this type of material on a lot of 45 dated "4th Pattern" tropical tunics - the type with six buttons on the front and continental insignia.
