As before a real nice club, would say WW1 and Austrian/German.

Thanks to all for your comments, it is a not simple subject for the origin of the room yes at the end of 1915 were made in "factory" with a marking,But found most do not carry marks
I also know one the other same than mine in a collection deprived without marks resulting from a back grandfather inhabitant of Lorraine fighting"German" in 14/18 near to me!!
            Thanks to all,

I agree with Mario, WWI and most likey German. I have one of these that is shown in the thread linked to gregM's post above. It is identical to this one with the exception of the wrist strap and the markings on the "morningstar". For years I thought it was Austrian, as they had several nearly idenitcal models. A grouping of them may still be on display at the Italian museum at Rovereto.

I have only seen one photo of German troops carrying this pattern.

Not the same item, but I think another nice "tool".

WW1! It was the time of innovations. Some things already existed in the history of the mankind....

Trench mace? Obviously period due to 80 year old patina. Here is the same club included in a grouping.

The one the soldier has in his right hand is the other variation with the square steel block. I had both patterns in my old collection.

I like the one with the spiked ball better. It's a wonder shields were not also used.
