    Let's see your Telegrapher Buckles

    Hi Everyone,

Here's a couple of Prussian Telegrapher Buckles I have. The Wartime gray example came from an old friend who aquired it from the estate of a WW1 U.S. officer, Major Frank Snyder.

The Brass Prussian buckle came on a hate belt I aquired this past year. It's a bit dinged up and shows wear/age, and has verdigris on the back where it was touching the leather belt.

    Enjoy!

    All the Best,

    Alan

Really nice buckles everyone! Thanks for sharing them!

And a big congratulations goes out to Sven for acquiring that super-rare Bavarian steel version on e-stand a couple of months ago!

That's really cool, Larry, that your brass one has "Chateau Thierry" scratched on the backside!

I just won a photo on eBay.de of a group of soldiers wearing these buckles. I'll have to scan it upon arrival, and post it here.

              All the Best,

              Alan

"Super rare" is an understatement. First one I have ever seen in over 35 years of collecting buckles. An amazing buy,

                Chris

That steel Bavarian is the second one I have seen..... the other was in the collection of the Bavarian Army Museum, Ingolstadt.

I must have been blind (or getting old) as I missed the Bavarian one in Sven's posting. A rare bird indeed, congratulations Sven.

The only Bavarian one I ever held in my hands was a stamped steel example at a Denver Colorado Gunshow in 1989, it wasn't for sale, the owner wouldn't even consider it, and I don't blame him either

Perhaps the most interesting example (and one I foolishly didn't buy) was at the SOS Show in Louisville about 4 years ago. It was on set-up day and a gentleman from Florida had a wonderful display of Imperial items. On his table was a brass telegrapher buckle with nickle center, but showing a Reichs pattern crown. To top it off it had a leather adjusting tab attached to it. I'd never seen a telegraphers buckle with tab before. Everything on his table was nice, and he had been an Imperial collector for decades, the buckle looked perfect. The price? $650. I was in the process of purchasing two Train Btln Tschakos from him and shot my bolt money-wise on those. A friend did buy it however and took it home to Germany. I wonder if he still has it, I'll have to ask him..

well, what can i say - i was just lucky to be the first one to see it and thank god it did not get lost during shipping or customs on its way back home ...

                          Hello Sven
Do you know the use of the large pouch on the soldier,s belt?
I believe I have one, I,ll dig it out and take a photo.

                          Thanks

                            Eric,
unfortunately i do not know much about pouches - i should be something that is related to telegraphers, maybe a pouch for equipment (field telephone)-

                              Eric,

That's a message pouch. It carried three notebooks, writing materials, a folding lantern and extra candles.
