    New cased Pilot badge

I just picked up this stunning unmarked pilot badge. Is this what they call the 'heavy leg' or 'heavy arm'?

Hi Robert, that is a beautiful conditioned tombak pilot by the "unknown maker" now thought to be FLL. Most have the thicker right arm of the swastika. Great badge! best wishes,

Yes, a super nice condition badge, great find Ditto Jeff's comments on the unknown maker.

                Thanks Jeff,

FFL, huh? This is the first I heard of FFL. Very interesting. Did I miss a thread on this, is there a thread, a link discussing this?

                Thank you

Beautiful "fat arm" PB in pristine condition and the case is also very nice too. Great addition to your collection.

                  Best regards,

                    Best regards,
                    Thank you Tim,

I am just now doing some studying through the archives on this badge. It seems Frank H. did some research on various badges made by the maker FLL, and potentially attributes this badge to this firm. This is interesting. Like I say, I am currently studying all I can find on this. It's good that after all of these years a maker's name can be placed on this fine badge.

                    Thanks for the ,

Here's one thread I thought very interesting, second page.
http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...hlight=FFL+CCC Thoughts on FLL CCC's hinges, catches vs. catches, hinges on 'Unknown Pilot'. I see some validity here.

I assume this is an earlier badge as the swas is symmetrical.
I wonder exactly when and how the arms got out of proportion.
Most likely rather early on, since the "fat arm" can be found in tombak.

                        Hi Tim,

Yours is the first I have seen with a completely symetrical swasi. Apparently the die kept popping them out with the fat arm, and the workers obviously quit finishing them all the way. Or, maybe the flyer did some filing on it himself.

                        Beautiful example, Tim. Thanks.

Here's a little better photo to compare details with yours.

                          Hi Robert,

Thanks. There are others out there with the normal swas, and in fact I believe that rather than yours being fat, it's actually thinner in all arms except the one giving it the appearance of being fat. If a worker or a pilot were to file down the "fat" arm, then the swasi would be thin all around. Make sense??

Something happened that changed the die at some point. Since all the zincers have the same un-symmetrical arms that gives us an indication when it happened.

                            Thanks Tim,

Understood. Thank you. Like a type 1 & 2, then zincer being made from the type 2 die. I think it's a fantastic pilot badge, reminding me a lot of the 'squat' GWL's. Reading into the theory of why others like Frank and Tom think it's from FLL, it makes good sense to me. I can see how the same block hinge was turned upward and used in the FLL CCC. It would seem to be a much stonger hinge on these pilot badges than the Juncker barrel hinge, but the pin on these are not up to what a Juncker is in dia. Your badge has just enough finish worn away to reveal the very nice detailing of the oak and laurel leaves on the wreath. A very awesome looking badge, Tim.
