    Luftwaffe Special Rank Insignia

These are interesting. In all my years of collecting I have never seen another pair still in the original paper loop. Anyone else? I also consider Unterfeldwebel a scarce rank in this style insignia.
    Regards,
    John

Here is another less common style of special rank insignia. The wings and bar of this Oberleutnant are not felt, but a smooth cotton.

        Hi Willi,
This Oberleut is from the show, as is the printed Feldwebel one in Fj. The pair in the paper loop are off ebay, got those back in July when I first posted them.

          Hey John,
I never really studied these at all or know whats the difference between the ones used for Jump smock or the paratroopers and those used for the Air crews. Can you offer a quick crash course on these?

          Thank you,

            Hi Michael,

Quickly, most Fj specific special rank are backed on greunmeliert and splinter greunmeliert. Both of these are very rare. Jump smocks with original greunmeliert (plain green or splinter) backed rank still on the sleeves are extremely rare. There are a few other green backings for special rank that are also expressly for Fj.

Flight special rank is backed with many materials including, navy wool, black wool, and all flight suit materials including brown velvet like material, summer braunmeliert (as those posted above), and leather.

In reality, many Fj wore flight suit rank on their smocks as well as the green or splinter backed rank. Primary among these other rank used are the summer flight suit backed and the black and navy wool backed. I have a black backed pair removed from a jump smock by the Fj officer that wore them.

Here is a link where we have discussed them.

Here is the printed version I picked up this weekend. This is the only one of these I have seen, does anyone else have any printed Luftwaffe special sleeve rank?

                Thank you John ,
It seems now that you are going to have a little competition over these, if I find any!

                Thanks for the link,

Collect with care Michael. These are faked, even the greunmeliert ones, and there are authentic field made versons that look totally bad.
