    Luftwaffe silver cup RK winner

    Hi,
This came into my local antiques shop any opinions welcome as to originality ,
I know the cup itself is genuine and period has anybody seen this or any similar snaps cups about?
What I like is that it do's not mention his Rk? sure if some one was to fake it they would have added the info ,he was awarded the Rk for his 26th kill so this pre-dates it,went on to get a total of 28 kills the last one apparently claimed his and his crew there lives.
    Any help much appreciated.

Ich halte den Becher für original. Es gibt zwar keine Vergleichstücke, Etui und Gravur sehen aber nach meiner Meinung zeitgenössisch aus.

I'm not really familiar with organization of a Geschwader. I think there could be a III. Gruppe or a 11. Staffel.

            So I'm a little confused about the 111. at 111./ NJG 3

            Kind regards
            Bernd

                Hi Bernd.

Strictly speaking a Staffel should be designated by Arabic numerals (i.e. '11' for eleventh Staffel) and a Gruppen by Roman numerals (i.e. 'III' for third Gruppe). In practice I have seen references in German documents that do not follow this strict discipline so I would not consider this definitive. My interpretation is this cup refers to third Gruppe, NJG3.

I have a few period cups and they do not bear such prominent hallmarks but I am no expert in this area.

                  Hello Tim,

for sure I think there are some possible explanations for useage of 111

The Hallmarks are for german silver after 1888 with fineness of 800/1000. The maker is Koch & Bergfeld from Bremen.

                  Kind regards
                  Bernd

When the size is bigger than the standard air victory cups it could be an extra cup for those 25 airvictories. I know pictures with trays full of the small standard
cups (12 at each tray) and an extra cup (like yours). I`ve seen different sizes and designs of those "extra cups".
