    Kar 98 Cavalry Carrier

    "New" item in my collection, a Karabinertragevorrichtung or also known as a Kar 98k Cavalry Carrier. It is quite dirty and needs a bit restoring but great item, mostly when I'm about to get a Kar 98k in working condition. The brown frog isn't part of it...was just there. Question, should I try to restore...or replace the broken strap?

      Congrats Carles !!! maybe a Sattler can repair it for you in a professional way.... otherwise i would try to get a piece of period brown leather (from an old strap or something) to restore the piece!!

      I don't know the origin of the frog, maybe someone can enlighten us / you

      And..... don't forget to show a pic with the 98k in it

        Thanks Tom,

        I'm quite good restoring, leather included, so I might try to restore but softening the leather first. The part of the strap is quite dry...

        I can surely show it with the Kar in...but won't look nice if it's not complete with the horse..and so on...My knees are shaking just by thinking on what I'll have to buy to complete the whole set

        The bayo frog might be spanish...?

              Defenitly the frog is Spanish. Being brown, it might be a pre-Spanish Civil War model, used with the Spanish mauser bayo mod. 1913.

                Been working a bit. The carrier is in really good condition if we don't count the straps. I'm working on those with moisture cream and vaseline and a lot of patience. I'll have to replace a small one that's missing.


                Please, any other pics of this in use...and any of the MG34 carrier?

                  See tha carabine sling hanging from the rider's belt. I thought it was to be fastened to the saddle. (I had the wrong impression from Tom's webhttp://www.mp44.nl/equipment/army_saddle.htm )

                          In post #2 (soldier standing on horse) and post #10 you can see clearly that the
                          visier is protected by a leather cover. I have such a thing somewhere
                          did not know till now that the cavalary used this cover

                            It could be well so. I have seen (around the internet) some dated, 35, 37, 39 and 40, I believe, but not later.
