Knight's cross ribbon sold on auction.

    Hi guys,

i watched this auction with great interest. Ribbon was eventually sold for 590€.
I did not participate in the auction. At first glance i thought, nice wear ribbon. But looking more in depth and when counting the white stitches i started doubting. I only count 18 stitches. I think that's just too low. In my collection i have three ribbons. 2 in the 23-26 range and one up to 30 stitches (wich is claimed to be an early ribbon)
Original knight's cross ribbon or copy ribbon adjusted with wartime parts for wearing and a look to fool?

This is the description of the seller:

              für ein

RITTERKREUZ des Eisernen Kreuzes , 1939

              Gesamtlänge ca. 500 mm

              Ordensbandbreite ca. 45 mm

                Very doubtful.

Leroy, should the 40mm ribbon have 18 stitches?

It certainly could. I'm not sure there is any standard for them, as they all started life as ribbons for the Austrian ribbon bars and the Austrian style trifold, and "morphed" into private use with RK's. I just counted on one I have and it has 17 white stitches.

Thanks Leroy. The reason I ask is because I have seen a 40mm knights cross ribbon that had 18 or 19 white stitches that I merely assumed was fake.
