    Grey orange gas mask training fillter

    Hello,
    I just found this gas mask filter on a fair. I haven't seen these colours before, but the combination does look original. I can hardly believe that all the markings (and Draeger marking) have been newly made.
    The "ub" marking seems to indicate that this is a trainings filter.

    2 markings have bene removed. 1 of them seems to be a date marking (possibly 1937), but that is hard to read.

    Can someone tell me more about this type of filter?

    Thanks,
    Frank

        Hi!
        if not mistaken, the orange strip should indicate that it is made of aluminum..
        Try it with a magnet

          That would be contrary to what the filter says, FE means Iron. It's a standard filter used as training filter, which meant it would have been useless in an actual event. Besides the paint there is nothing different than any other filter like that but it's not a common item being a training filter.

              I just checked and this one is made of steel.

              Is the grey normal? Would that be a regular early war colour, or does that also have to do with training purposes?

              Thanks!

                All filters were standard green colored but this one is painted different so no confusion could arise when in a gas attack. The last thing you would want to do in such an event is to put on a filter which is useless so hence the markings to identify it as a training aid.

                  I know from several Countries, that they took used Filters for Training and that there is no confusion on them, they're marked with a Coloured Ring, sometimes with Coloured Dot's etc. The Soviets used them Several Times, so sometimes you can find several dot's on them. Must look on one to be sure if the green or the red Dot was the first. So if you have a Filter with one marking, it was used once before, 2 Markings 2 times and so on. So I guess it's maybe a marking that the filter is maybe good for Tear Gar, but not for "real" Agents.

                    I don't think FE means iron but: Filtereinsatz

                      FE = Filter Einsatz

                      Fe = Ferro (Iron)

                      Üb indeed means Übung (Training)

                      I've seen the Heeres Mitteilung where is described that the training Filters are to be marked "Üb" , but I can't remember which one it was, so I'll go through them and when I find I'll post it here...

                      HM 916 from august 6, 1940 describes that non magnetic Filters are to be marked with a brown coloured ring. They also have to be marked >> R5 << or >> R7 <<

                      I've seen non magnetic Filters also marked NM (Nicht Magnetisch)
