    LAH SS Pennant? Opinions

Well I have for opinions good or bad a most peculiar SS oriented mat or pennant.
I do not have it to hand and it belongs to a young woman who was given it by an ex LAH member. . There is no other history with it.

Has anybody seen anything like it before? Any information would be appreciated.

    All the best
    Doug

              Hello Doug:
IMO, based on modern looking material and
machine embroidery, and distorted LAH cypher.
Not a pennant for sure, as it would be triangular.

Hello I picked up an identical item around 1973-75. I was told it was a place mat for a SS LAH vet org. dinner.

Thank you both for your opinions and indeed the thought of a place mat did cross my mind so perhaps I have my answer.

                  All the best
                  Kind regards

About 1980 (or so) I was able to obtain exactly such a piece directly from an ex-LSSAH Officer himself (named and pictured in Vol. I of Rudolf Lehmann's LSSAH series) - he confirmed that these were dinner place-mats used at official LSSAH re-unions over the years (the one I obtained from him he admittedly "liberated" from one such LSSAH re-union). The mats themselves are actually of fairly high quality manufacture (note all insignia is sewn directly into the black background) and fairly impressive when seen "live"....

the SS are not tight weave, LAH sloppy for high command

Thankx for stating the obvious, but it's a post-war place mat made to absorb spilled soup and coffee, remember ??? For what it is, and what is was intended for, the quality of manufacture is clearly above average....

Hello Hundestaffel, thank you for the additional information. I can imagine that the reunions are fairly raucous affairs...I have attended a few of my own Regiment.
                          Kind regards

No problem Doug.... while I don't have any information in regards to who, or what firm, custom made these place mats for post-war LSSAH re-unions (nor do I have solid information in regards the
time frame(s) used, but would suspect the early / mid 70's to the early / mid 80's), the mats themselves were never intended as "personal souveniers" of the re-unions and are today collectables in their own right (the LSSAH place mat I have was "liberated" at a LSSAH re-union in Germany, 1979).
