Opinions Needed on B.H.Mayer EK1 Carton...

Picked this up w/a few other cases/boxes & am wondering if it's any good or not.

I've read what I can on the forum here about these, but still can't seem to come to a definite conclusion, so I need any help I can get.

    Here's what I see:
Standard marking on the front w/"1940" stamp in bottom right corner,
Marked "B.H.Mayer, Pforzheim" on the side,
Has a "3" on the back,
    Top flap has "W" stamp,
Bottom flap has "III/0070" on it.

It passes the black light (no bright glow).

I guess my main concerns are is the lettering correct & the wear pattern seems almost manufatured.

Any help, comments or input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Same as my box, but i dont have those stamps 1940 and W. I do belive it´s orginal. I have also tested my box and cant find any wrong, left to do is a C14 date off it but thats a bit expensive so i will go

In lieu of carbon dating I like it.

                BH Mayer outer carton

Looks same as mine although mine's does not have the "1940", "W" or "3", but it does havethe "111/0070" on the flap. It's difficult to tell the exact colouring because of the lighting in the photo, but the fake ones are more yellow in colour than the originals, which are more orange than yellow, and the interior in the fakes are grey and smooth as opposed to the creamy textured/flocked interior of the originals.

There's something not correct about the writing/designation letters and date.......it's early days yet on this one, but already I suspect this as a fake in all honesty.

I can't photo shop or I'd put a pic up comparing the two designations, this is a picture of a fake owned by Neil Howes, it's his picture and should he want it removed please ask.

Now compare both to a genuine example pic's are Stogieman's I hope he too doesn't mind me using them for this purpose.

Look carefully at the designation, the K's , numbers and how more precise the designation is rather than an unsteady hand scrawl of the other two.

And thats even before we get onto the side maker mark.......but in my opinion theres no need too.

Like I say......this is my opinion and I'm sure people will disagree, look very closely though and make your own mind up.

Also look on page 120 of Gordon Williamsons book 'The Iron Cross of 1939' traits to stogiemans but not the other two.

I would hazard a guess that these boxes and cartons of 26's originate from a late mid to later war period, 1940 I wouldn't have thought so. Not to be confused that there a versions of a similar nature to the make-up of this 26 which are indeed earlier.

Perhaps someone can correct me on that, it's just my idea....so again don't take that as gospel please.

I think you're right. It does look like an unsteady hand on those letters. The 'e' doesn't seem to quite have the right lean. Those are nice copies.
