I'm glad that you started this thread Ed!
I was going to start an NSKK cap thread but I'll just tag on to your posting.
                Nice example btw!

I have several and I try to find/collect these in the branch colors of the
Western European foreign volunteers (Dutch + Belgium Walloon +Flemish + French)as shown below.
#4 still on the way to me from Austria and in Flemish (dark) green.
So I'll have all 4 major freiwilligen war time instituted nat'l farbes!
Of course these colors were also used by German nationals (prewar assigned district farbes).

                  NSKK eagle

Has anybody seen examples of these caps with the triangular eagle placed CENTER ON THE FRONT of the cap?
This way giving it a more "armed forces" appearance. Apparently this was done based on some period images.

Here's why I'm asking...This image posted by another WAF member earlier depics the 4 major foreign NSKK nationalities
in NSKK Luftwaffe service. The image comes from the Military museum in Brussels (which I have also visited on numerous occasions, so I'm taking the liberty to borrow this image)! Note the Walloon (Yellow eagle) NSKK cap!

Neat caps!! NSKK is pretty cool with all the branch colors. Was it common to wear rank pips on the side of their caps like the one shown by Ed?

Close up. Note French (yellow farbe) NSKK side cap on display in Brussels with trianguar eagle devise placed
FRONT CENTER + added a LW cockade (in lieu of NSKK buttons) to give the cap a more "armed forces" appearance.
Any examples (real of photographic) out there?

Its a fact that the NSKK drivers, especially the ones in LW service wore a hodge podge of uniform insignia (mixed NSKK and LW)
so I don't find this example, as displayed in Brussel, to be a stretch... Thoughts?Sorry for the poor quality but you get the idea!

Yes standard practice, a cap with one pip is NSKK-Scharführer and my cap with yellow (Walloon farbe) eagle, shows a rank "tresse" (braiding) instead of a pip, so lower rank example, an NSKK sturmmann (post 8 first cap)

Here's the red eagle cap displayed with an NSKK-Luftwaffe Dutch volunteer impression.
The cap would need a pip to match the coat in rank (=fixed).

Yes, the Kraftwagen Transport Regiment 4 (Speer) der Luftwaffe working in Africa had Lw tropical side caps with the NSKK eagle placed on the front.
                            Cheers
