    Gasmask breather

    Hi

saw this on the e-stand and would like to know your opinions about it....

    1945 gas mask special

I think the strap does not belong to the set, and also the nose piece is different from the ones I have seen (then one sold looks more like a modern swimmers nose clip)

Here one from my collection to compare

and this is the one being sold

Pretty sure its a good one Tom. The only other breather I have seen complete was like the second one shown, variations might exist though I guess. Not sure about the neck strap though.

The square cloth carrying bags to go with it was produced by at least 2 makers AFAIK. The bag shown on e-stand was just an ordinary for dust protection (for any filter?)?

You find the bag and the mouthpiece easily, but the noseclip and neckstrap are always missing.

Bit of a mystery if these were emergency last ditch gasmasks (I doubt it) or used for some thing special, I have even heard submarine crews, but I think there was a photo on the WAF showing a regular Heer soldier wearing the bag.

    Just my 2 cents.

Agree with Sonnewende: wrong strap and normal dust cover.
      Not worth €100 i.m.o....

Correct, dust filter is normal one, used in Tp environments

As for the nose clip, i don't know.... also the thin thread that is holding it looks somewhat flimsy to me, but sure, variations existed, so who knows....

I have seen that nose clip used before on a similar set-up, I will see if I can find out where, also if the string to attach it to the mouthpiece was the same, I did notice it being a bit thin and new looking.

            Isn't that the neck-strap from a m38 gasmask?

1st pics is the right configuration IMO.

The other one is a ground dug piece with added strap and nose clip IMO.

Merci Jos, my opinion as well......

and indeed, looks like a cut off strap from an M30 mask (M38 straps had the little button)

Found out where I saw another one with different noseclip:

                  http://www.gasmasklexikon.com/Page/Start01.htm

look under "Germany M" (top line, click on the flag) and "Mundstueck/schw" (far left, scroll down and click on the arrow)

I stand corrected: the estand setup is not original, the noseclip is a look-alike to the one on the gasmasklexikon.com, the flimsy string is not original - the one on gasmasklexikon.com looks more like Toms. Cannot comment on the neckstrap, Toms look to fit better on the mouth piece.

But the noseclip and string on gasmasklexikon.com is original and a variation IMO

Has any one got any comments on the possible use for these breathers?

                  Regards
