    MG 42 ammo belt

    Hello guys,

I would like to buy this MG34/42 ammo belt (deactivated), but first I want to be sure about it.

Is this an original German ww2 MG42 ammo belt?

I'm not a weapon or ammo expert, so I hope someone can help me with this.

    Thanks in advance!

    Regards,
    Sven

    Thanks for watching!

From what I can see, the rounds are original, seems. The belt probably is also but to be sure you should get a pic of the little piece at the beginning, the small square one. It should have a 3 letter code, a WaA eagle or something like that.

Its should be marked something like that. There are east German belts as well, and probably other east european ones for the countries that used the MG42/34 post war.

Ok guys, thanks for the replies.

I asked the seller and he told me that it's not the regular end of the belt loader, it is an irregular end not the official long one which comes into the MG.

        So there is no code...

        Sven

If it is a german belt it should have a stamp of some kind, even if not the "regular" end. The square little piece that helps to link to another belt should have a stamp. Please see the pics: "15A " is the maker's code and "3.40" tha making date. Anyhow, these are two 50-round belts linked together, so both should be marked.

Here you go, not sure if it means anything....

It’s very difficult to photograph with my camera, so I’ve made a quick sketch as well

Sorry, but that belt is post war. German WWII belts have a square little tab (as the one I posted in #5), not a hook. Perhaps your starter tab is good, but the belt isn't.

Cheers Carles, i think you are right, been looking at it again and the starter belt is not the same as the rest

                      Cheers for the input

Interesting thread, all my MG42 belts have CVO on the end tab - no date.

                          Hello Pit,

"CVO" is correct for a WWII belt. Linking tabs on WWII belts are square and always marked (as far as I know) with either one or several of the following:

-Maker's code (might be three letter or other, depending on the year)
                          -Maker's logo
                          -Date
                          -WaA eagle.

Those hooked shaped or belt links with a big hole in the centre are post war.
