Hi Everyone,
Heres my newest acquisition. It popped out of the blue from another collector nearby. When I got the box in the post, I fully expected to see one of the many repros out on the market.
Instead it turned out to be an original kubanka (IMHO)!
Anyway theres no history to it. All the materials are wartime and it has a nice musty smell to it. It came with insignia, but evidence of other holes points to it being replaced. I pulled it off since it wasn't centered correctly.
Condition is okay.Light grazing to the base cloth from bugs etc.
Evidently it spent some time in damp/wet conditions. Some of the red dye has bled over onto the bordering cloth. I've seen this effect with some officer shoulderboards. Also there was shrinkage as it dried out. However neither effect detracts on the overall appearance of the hat.
Again I believe its original but views to the contrary are welcomed. WR Jim
