MY next to come Kar 98k

I bought this one in working condition a month and a half ago. Still doing all the import paperwork, transport and so on. No post war stamps, bolt not matching. Mauser 243 1940. I wonder if the butt is also matching??? I'll have to wait to get it. Opinions welcome.

Unfortunatelly, they won't let me have it with my Collector's License unless I prove what day it was used during what specific battle so I have to get it with my hunting license and have it restamped. I hope it passes the test and they don't say it has to be deactivated.

I will contact the Proofhouse and ask them to stamp bellow the wood level, so they don't damage the "look" of the weapon

        Looks like an honest k98.
Too bad about the silly laws.
        Very nice !

          Terrible nightmare

Well... I got the rifle 7 months later...and guess what...I had asked the people at the Proof House to stamp it under the woodline, so it wasn't seen...but have a look yourself

I'm really upset, just not to say something else

They got paid the same, so I imagine. Pity I can't put them in trial because they just "did the work"

                Carles,

I like it, and it's still a working k98, it could be worse.

What I hate is, except for the bolt, it is all matching s/n. Butt is stamped inside and outside, buttplate, both bands, back sight in three places, extractor, capture screws... I was just hoping to find a matching bolt, so it would be complete...and they have fuxxed it!!!!

It's not that bad buddy I wouldn't let it bother you to much. Like others said it's still a honest war time rifle all matching. Just don't use them again to do any other work for you.

It's a great looking rifle it has a been there look to it wish we could here it's story's.

I know it's not that bad but it is really difficult to get an untouched Kar 98k matching, not a RC, not refurbished or reblued or restamped. They could have made the stamps just 1 cm lower, it would have taken 5 minutes more...but they were in a hurry to finish work so can go on hollidays. I cannot "not use them again" because they are the official Proof House and i cannot import any weapon if it doesn't go trough them!!!!!

BTW does any one have a right bolt S/N 2020 to exchange? It would be great to find one.

Rifle is legit just very worn metal. A shame someone steel-wooled the hell out of the receiver

I wouldn't say metal is worn, just lost blueing on most of seen parts. Not even light rust, only some stains. They did try to delete the WaA stamps on the butt, though. I'll clean it well and oil.

I've got a nice a nice bad 1940 sling with matching stopper, for it. It's been about 25 years in a drawer, just waiting.

Nice looking piece, the blueing loss does seem like maybe steel wool or something like that. It really does have that been there look. The photos of the top of the receiver make it look like an RC "X" but I think its just the photos, and the Reds never put together a matching rifle!

Glad you like it. It does have the look and used but not abuse. Perhaps it was thoroughly cleaned by previous owner but no other change had been done since the war...til now. I'll keep it till I find a better one and then I'll decide. At least it has been inspected and it is reliable for shooting.
