Hi Cliff,
Difficult to give you an opinion based upon these pictures because there isn't much to go on.
Concerning the badge to the left that one seems to have the Zimmermann setup. But what I can't see is if it is flatbacked or slightly scooped and if there are raised guides arround the hinge and catch.
How do the obverse features of this badge compare to the Zimmermann IAB's posted in this thread.

Thanks Philippe, yes, the hinge and catch are similar to the zimmerman badges. However, notice 2 differences:
1) Area behind the bolt of the rifle to the wreath is solid on the zimmermans, cut out on this unmarked badge
2) The rifle butt is flat on the unmarked badge, some say this is a sign of fakes.

Hi Cliffe,
Personaly I don't know of other IAB's with this typical setup. I do know however that this setup appears on fake Juncker PAB's and Juncker Luft Flakbadges. So if you say that it is different on the obverse and that it is a complete flatback It's most likely not a Zimmermann IAB and I would be carefull with it.
Based on these pics it's my impression also that the eagles head isn't very well detailed and the same thing goes for the paws. But like I said before realy difficult to give an opinion based upon these pics.

Hi Harry:
Thanks for posting for me! The right badge was wrapped in the original issue paper when I got it and displays good detail and is deeply stamped and vaulted. The only reason I doubted it was it was the condition is so nice.
The one on the left came in a grouping I bought, but always concerned me as it did not conform to my others. It is hard as nails, slightly thick, has a almost bronze assault badge patina to it. It is nearly flat backed. The workmanship is high. The detailing is there on the leaves and the acorns.
I see that Zimmerman is mentioned as a maker. I always suspected that IF it was an original piece it was a Juncker, as the catch and hinge more closely resemble it and the Juncker PAB's are very similar and known for thick, flat pieces and this style of assembly. However Juncker is not a known maker of IAB's, right?
It struck me as odd that much work would go into this quality if not original. Still don't want to throw it in the scrap heap.
Thanks!Last edited by Colorado; 05-22-2003, 03:11 AM.Alitur vitium vivitque tegendo
