I believe silver grade hollow backs were produced. -
These "81s "usually started as black grade which later on recieved a silver finish on top of the black which do not "pass" the acetone test. Question is when did they get that silver finish on the black, the same goes for the gold ones as well.Regards

Hans brought it to the point: they can be often found as silver grade but no one can say for sure if they could the finish during or after the war.
I would never buy them for a price of a rare hollow silver one - my 2 cents.Best regards, Andreas

I am a still on the fence on these. There are a lot of them out there and nearly all are from the same maker. Question is if it's done post war as a souvenir or during to save materials. I can imagine both possibilities.
I personally don't mind having a set in my collection as it's part of the VWA "history",
I wouldn't pay premium for them though,
