    Heavy zimmerman DKiG

This is a new heavy zimmerman DKiG. Wieght is 66.0 g. Dimensions 63.22mm X 63.18mm. The cross looks good to me, with the catch, hinge, rivets and date like a heavy zimmerman. The case looks funny to me, with two hinges and a shoddy covering over the hinges. The case does not glow under UV. Any thoughts? Also, why is it that we see "mint" zimmermans and kleins, but virtually no "mint" deschlers, junckers, or godets? Thanks

I don't see anything wrong with the case.
As to why there are so many mint Zimmermanns around -- Zimmermann made a lot of DKs, hence it makes sense that more of them in mint condition would still be around.

Thanks George. The only cases I have are with one hinge panel and look alot more worn. The case, with the exception of the textured paper covering over the hinges, looks to be of high quality. The characteristics of the cross look good, but all the mint zimmermans and kleins makes me paranoid that there are extremely good fakes. Some of the bad kleins are very close.

The catch is not resting on a backplate. Isn't that strange?

                          Case

                          Tom,

Case is good. This is a perfect example of an early '2nd Pattern' German Cross case. You may have seen the initial production small '1st Pattern' designed for the multi revit small pin'd GC. The characteristics are noteworthy; padded 'silk' case lining, higher quality velvet insert, and split hinge.

Since most GCs in the US market are the later style light-weight Zimmerman's and Klein's (The total Schloss Klessheim 'horde' will never be known but, I estimate over 350 stone mint cased GCs/G/S may have been liberated).

By the way, the 2nd Pattern Cases in my opinion, are much more valuable then the 3rd pattern.

                          MIKE

                            Hi Tom,

At first glance, I see one major problem with your heavy "20": its location.

                            Volkbert,
This is the early heavy "20". What you mention is a feature of the later light "20".

                            Best,
                            Albert

                              Thanks for the responses, guys!

Michael- Do you think it is only about 350 of the mint pieces from the castle around? It seems as though the lighter zimmermans and kleins are all over the place. Also, when referring to the second type, do you mean the non-hinged cases as the third type? As among the second type, there seems to be alot of variations with regard to the hinge, catch as well as quality of the satin backing and velvet base. This case has a "mushroom cap" push button, which I had not seen before on a DKiG case.

Albert- Thanks. Really like that grouping and am anxious to see the last pieces to get it all mounted and displayed. Thanks again. The photos really make the whole bit come alive. Thanks
