    Police Expert Mountaineers Badge

These are photos of my Gendarmerie Hochalpinist Badge.

If anyone has an "Alpinist" badge they want to sell, will they let me know?

Nice. How is the eagle attached to the pick handle and the wreath. Mine are soldered to the old Austrian shield.

        Joe,

The eagle is attached by two small rivets, one behind the eagle's head and one behind the swas. I have seen the type you have. That was the original Austrian badge and I suppose after the Anschluss, the German Polizei eagle was superimposed.

        Can you post some pics?

Unfortunately I don't post as I don't agree with this site's philosophy of charging people to share their knowledge with others. Other sites don't charge to have photo posting priviledges. I don't pay so I can't post.

Yes, my Alpinist is like the Hochalpinist shown in Littlejohn's first volume. I bought it from Forman's who said it was from Dodkin's collection. The clip was replaced with a pin-back. My Hochalpinist still has the clip attachment.

Do the rivits of yours attach the eagle to the shaft of the climbing pick?

            Joe,

If you got the Dodkin's piece then it must have the white background to the police eagle. Yes, the rivets do go through the ice-pick. I can't post photos of this area as the clips are in the way.

Today I received the Gendarmerie Alpinist badge I had been looking for for many years. It came from an antique shop in Graz/ Austria.

These are difficult badges to find nowadays with most already in collections.

                        The set:

From the reverse of the Alpist badge on the right, you can see the pre-war Austrian shield which had the Nazi Polizei emblem attached to it.

Wow, that brings back memories. In 1973 I went to an antique shop in Graz on the main road through the town. I didn't see any military items so I asked him if he had any. He went into the back room and came out with a little box full of items. From that box I bought a Gau Munich badge and a Polizei Bergfuehrer badge. I stupidly traded the Bergfuehrer badge later that year to Herr Weithoefer in Wien who had a military shop near Reduolf Souval's store.

Congratulations Stan! It is always nice to be able to fill in holes in the collection. A very nice pair of badges and thanks for showing them.
