            Could you post more photos taken straight on, and not from angles?
            A photo on the crown of that Iron Cross will help as well i think.

                  Not made together, ie once they were individual items, the spange looks a lot cleaner than the EK. The spange also has had its original hinge&pin arrangement removed, which I suppose was commonly done. I would like to see some shots of the case.......

                    I'm a little put off by this. If this had been the original item in the case, I would expect a pristinely finished combo. This example is not. It's a jeweler put together, in a hurry.

                      While the EK looks like it might be a typical S&L T/R era produced 1914 EK1, I would check the spange against the one on page 465 of Gordon Williamsons book..

                      This is most definitely NOT the section of the book you would want to find a match for your piece in!

                        Biro is right, the design of the spange alone forbids this item to be original. It is the Floch design.
