I'm not so certain anymore as I was when the thread appeared. There is lots of discrepancies when I started comparing with the veteran obtained shields I have on file. Paws, tounge, the jaw etc. I've heard there were excellent copies on the market before but never believed it. This might be one of them. Caveat emptor.

After seeing the picture in Christian J's post I did a detailed comparison with the original I bought in 1994 from George Peterson. The one in my collection matches the 4 on the top row. I cannot address whether the shield that started this thread is a reproduction that is believable at first sight or just a wartime variation, but it does appear to be different.
