    Black Wound Badge Opinions Please

    Hi All,

I have concerns about the originality of this wound badge.

The stippling first gave me cause for concern but the badge itself doesn't 'feel' right, or look right when in hand.

It's made of a non-ferrous metal. Although the quality is quite good, I think its fake.

    Any opinions chaps?

    Cheers,

Hello Jason, although your wound Badge has no visable manufacturers mark, this is not unusual for a 1939 Black die stamped example and they are often encountered in sheet metal as well as Brass. The catch and pin assembly are also characteristic of a period example. I honestly can't see any alarm bells with this Badge
I am sure Jussi (WAF Jippee) would confirm this, as his knowledge on wound Badges is more extensive than mine.
      Regards Martin

I also see no problems with this badge. Ron.

          Many Thanks Chaps,

I stumbled across one or two threads late last night about the quite convincing BWB fakes being manufactured out of Germany in recent years, this got the alarm bell ringing about my piece.

Due to your relieving comments, that alarm bell is now silent.

Thanks for the peace of mind guys

          Jason

            Hello Jason

From these pictures I don’t like the badge, I can’t prove it yet
but I just bought an unfinished copy that looks like a match for this design.
            I might be wrong.

I will come back to this thread when I get the copy in my hand in a week or two

            Cheers,
            Ronny

              Oh Dear...

              Many thanks for that Ronny.

It would be great to have your input on this particular badge.

              Jason

PS: we spoke a couple of years or so ago when I became a member of the renowned "Assman Wound Badge Club"
              Cheers,
              Jay

Hello Ronnie, perhaps is it possible that your unfinished Badge is not a copy and is in actual fact a period planchet

                    Hello guys

Here is a picture of the same type as the unfinished badge
I bought, this picture are from http://www.stephan.de also sold as copy
They don’t have one in stock the moment but they also have ww1 unfinished
                    also sold as copies.

I will post better pictures when I get the badge.

                    Cheers,
                    Ronny

Ronnie, the one purchsed from Siegmund, that you have posted appears to be a completly different Badge to the type that Jason started the thread with

Hi Ronny, thanks for showing the pictures of the copy, a different badge from the one that started the thread I would say also. IMO the one you show would have been copied in the first place from an original wound badge, or are the makers of these copies these days making dies up from scratch? I would say no, as there is just not enough money to be made from doing so! The badge that started this thread off has period hardware and build quality, also the paint is very old. There is no way its a new age copy IMO! What metal are these copies made from Ronny?

                          Hi again,

I don’t know yet what material of these copies are made of
but you can buy them without paint and with paint and pin/catch
I know that the picture is not good at all but the things that got my attention
at first “see picture” are the dot pattern and some missing dots.

Some dots missing under the helmet, dot missing left sword and the dot pattern
between the sword under the helmet.
There is also a flat spot in the dot patter on the back right sword under the visor
Hope you can see my small red rings.

And I am not saying that the first badge posted in this thread is a fake just that I don’t like it and
                          why I don’t.

                          Cheers,
                          Ronny

Hi Ronny, you said in your first post regarding this badge that I sold to Jason: "I just bought an unfinished copy that looks like a match for this design" I see no match with the badge that you have shown that is a poor fake to say the least, with the badge that I sold to Jason!

Well I said that it looks like a match and to me that is NO the same as it is a match or am I missing something

Regarding my copy this is one of the best out there and if you don’t see the red rings I pointed out
and if you can’t see the resembles, well that’s up to you.

I still don’t say that’s the first badge posted is a copy.
I will post big quality scans when I get my badge
And btw the copy I posted are sold by many big dealers a real thing

                              Cheers,
                              Ronny
