    General Dietl's uniform

    Dear all,

I thought you might be interested for the photos of General Eduard Dietl's tunic, which is located in Helsinki, and not in my attic...

    Enjoy it!

Any comments on the gold piping on the field cap?

                          Wow
                          Simply stunning
How did the set end up there?
In the period pictures he is wearing what seems to be a silver wound badge, and in the real tunic is shown a black wound one.Never mind, it is one of a kind set.
I think I will start shaving

Just a few observations on the jacket.

In the period photo of him sitting the points of the collar look longer and the collar more narrow than in the Museum photo.

In the period photo of him sitting a party pin is placed just below the point of the pocket flap but then again the other period photo shows it close to the point of the pocket flap.

In the Museum photo the large award (don't know what it is) is pinned almost touching the point of the pocket flap with no room for the party pin.

The battle sheild looks to be placed higher up on the sleeve in the period photo and lower on the Museum photo. Could be just the photos.

The award is the Grand Cross breast star with swords of the Order of the white rose of Finland (Finnish second highest order).

In German: Grosskreuz der Weissen Rose von Finnland mit Schwertern und Bruststern.

Awarded to Dietl on 9 november 1941.

Also awarded to him the Finnish Freedom Cross 1st class with oaks leaves, swords and breast star on 20 jan 1944 and later the Grand Cross of Finnish Freedom Cross.

Dietl was awarded the Verwundetenabzeichen im Silber in 1917.
