I don't know that, but the catch on Frank's badge can be seen on zinc variants, so maybe yours is the early type.

Hi Guys,

Frank, yours is the classic Deumer-attributed zincer with the usual hardware, in exceptionally nice condition.

Andy's (which he posted before in this discussion thread) is also a zincer in stunning condition, and is the only one I'd seen so far with the question-mark catch, although this is a commonly used type of catch in Lüdenscheid, by S&L and others (not to mention Orth over in Vienna).

If Andy's badge were in fact tombak then he'd have a problem...

Hi Andy,

If you look closely at your badge photos you can see that not only the catch but also the hinge block are attached with plates underneath them -- classic and correct for these zinc badges.

I believe you have a mint zinc badge. If you call it a "maybe bunt" you might as well call it a "maybe fake" since these weren't made in tombak!

I have an unmarked badge also. Appears as if it is zinc and has the "?" catch and block/plate flat vertical pin. It has lost most of the gold fleck though. It's dimensions match those of the Deumer reference in Torpedo Los:

Overall Width - 48.2 mm
Overall Height - 39.5 mm
Max Thickness - 3.5 mm
Wingspan of Eagle - 32.5

Have not recorded the weight yet.
