You have great taste in insignia--I am still looking for the oh-so-elusive Zoll visor with that insignia....

wow, never realized how good the detailed threading was on these.

you don't see quality like that anymore.

                Enlisted Member Cockade

While researching a recent acquisition, Barney's thread caught my eye so I am posting here what I believe to be a cockade that would have been worn by enlisted or lower administrative members of the Customs Service. Certainly not as attractive as the officer one, but I hope it is the real thing.

It is not made of aluminum, rather a heavier metal (not lead) that has a dull (not silver) finish and is non-magnetic. There are no maker marks. The detail of the acanthus wreath is quite good. Mine appears to look like the one shown here in picture #7 (note that in this one and mine, the metal is not voided in the small, diamond-shaped spot where the wreath comes together at the top, just above the roundel):

Others (with the spot at the top voided) appear here in picture #9:

                as well as here:

I would greatly appreciate it if Forum members would comment, please, as to whether this appears to be a period original.

                Thanks and regards,

                John

Although I wish my NCO cockade were as beautiful as Barney's officer one above, I did get positive feedback (see here: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=248658 ).
                    Thanks,
                    John
