Late war most definately, but I wouldn't consider it fake. I've purchased a similar example which was heavily worn in a SS insignia group direct from the veteran. I think there have been a couple of threads in the past discussing this style of tab.

        It is original.

          Thanks!

I seem to recall this kind of tab in the forum somewhere, but I can't find it. What is it that gives it the mottled look?

The mottled texture is given because the stitching pattern is very course, similar to a think gauze texture for lack of a similar comparison. Hope this helps...Paul

This is a nice late-war, original collar tab.

These were reproduced a lot in the late seventies and appeared on numerous repro tunics along with the long nosed embroidered sleeve eagle with no feet.

                Cheers,Ian.
