cloth German Cross in Gold : opinion please

    Hi all,

I purchased this cloth badge. It looks like a "gold german cross" but the around is a little bit different than metal version ( may be because it is a cloth version ? ). It looks like really old : the gold and silver threads have a nice patina, some very small parts are damaged, ... I think it 'ld be difficult to do a fake ike this but at this time ... I 'ld like have your opinion about it : real or not ?
    Thanks.

Probably because it doesn't have a single characteristic of a REAL cloth DKiG.

If you do a search for Cloth DKiG's on this forum, and check the numerous threads that discuss these and have MANY photos of original examples, or perhaps consult Dietrich's excellent reference work on the German Cross, you'll see why.

Here are a couple of examples to begin with.....

Period photographic evidence suggests there are other forms of custom made German Crosses.

Look at Lot No. 3247 in the current Hermann Historica catalog. Sorry I can't copy it to show here.

                Here it is..

First time I've seen one like this .. Beautiful bullion work, I wonder if it was done in TR Germany or Pakistan.

It is certainly very interesting looking, and I would probably own it if it was the right price -- maybe 1/10th of a genuine one...

The versions shown here - official, except post 8. And shown in the beginning - the private order. why a copy?

                        Hello there,

I may regret saying this but I actually kind of like the one posted. If it was a reproduction you would think they would have a gray starburst or at least try to mimic an issued cloth award. All I'm saying is that IF this was a fake then they missed the mark with some major flaws but excellent craftsmanship with some nice materials often seen on originals....

I agree, this is an interesting piece, because modern fakers would not try to do it like this and the materials look interesting.

                          Best Regards,

                          Adren

Here's an interesting example from Helmut Weitze's site.

I also wonder whether the above one on Weitze's site is genuine or not. As alleged, it is a cloth DKS!
