    Cigarette Card Album

I have just received two cigarette card type albums. The first one is called Adolf Hitler and contains more than 100 black and white photos of the man himself. The photos are much larger than the old British cigarette cards and I would like to learn more about these: how many other books were there? What are the titles? Where were these photos obtained from? here are a few shots.

There are lots of different ciggie albums.

Most are reasonably priced $100-200. The rarer ones are expensive.

You see them all over the place.

Kai Winkler usually has a selection on his site.

If you think these are cool have you seen the Raumbild 3d albums?

          Cheers,
          David.
At Rathau on the Aller, the CO of 5th Royal Tanks advanced on foot to take a cautious look into the town before his tanks moved in. He encountered one of his own officers, a huge Welshman named John Gwilliam who later captained his country's rugby team, 'carrying a small German soldier by the scruff of his neck, not unlike a cat with a mouse.' The Colonel said: 'Why not shoot him?' Gwilliam replied in his mighty Welsh voice: 'Oh no, sir. Much too small.'

Also interesting is the Cigarette Album Der Staat der Arbeit und des Friedens in its pre and post Röhm editions.

NS revisionism at its best. Here is Adi and Ernst in the pre purge edition.

The suggestion to check out the stereoscopic albums is a good one. Although tending to be very expensive, they are wonderful to behold. The best, in my opinion are those covering the Reichsparteitage.

Here's a nice short of Hühnlein riding through the NSKK lager adjacent to the rally grounds.

Seen with the brille that accompanied the albums, these pictures jump to life.

There are many cigarette albums for the collector. The pictures in the Adolf Hitler album shown above come from Heinrich Hoffman. As a companion item, there is the Deutschland Erwacht album.
