    Polizeigruppe in Steiermark - Cholmkämpfer

The picture below is from a photo grouping I acquired recently. He belonged to R.Pol.Btl.65(mot.). He was a Cholmkämpfer, of course, that's why I bought it for me

The backside reads "Steiermark". Can any Polizei-specialist tell me the timeframe this picture was taken?

Unfortunately I have no documents from the soldier, no idea which unit he was in during his Steiermark days...

    Click the picture to enlarge.

    The soldier with his Cholmschild.

Polizei soldiers seems to have used top-flat backing for Cholmschild because of Polizei arm patch. Oval ones would never fit...

      Hello Akira,

      Very nice pictures........thanks for sharing.

The second picture was taken in/after 1942 as the man (Zugwachtmeister) is wearing the M42 Feldbluse.

Interesting to note (next to the flat-topped cloth backing to the shield) is that to further accomodate the Cholm shield.........the eagle has been moved up a little (judging from the picture it is about 5-10cm to high on the sleeve)

(first picture) They are not yet wearing the M43 Einheitsmütze. This is not in itself an indication that it must have been before the introduction of the M43 in 1943.......as the old Bergmützen had to be worn off.

      hope this helps a little

        Hello Akira,

That is one very pretty picture from a man who survived the Hell on earth

In my opinion they simply cut a piece of the cloth from their Cholmshield so that it would fit better ( just an opinion ).

Probably the forum clock was out of sync again? > Stijn, Jacques

Thanks Ernst, the Steiermark photo is certainly 1943 or later (I hoped if we could tell 1944 from 1943!) because the soldiers have Cholmschild, which were awarded to these policemen in December 1942 in Krakau (Poland).

                Dear Akira,
Reserve-Polizei-Bataillon 65 became I. ("Cholm")/Polizei-Regiment 25 in Lublin, Poland in July 1942. The regiment was engaged in Poland for the remainder of 1942/1943, with I. ("Cholm")/SS-Pol.Rgt. 25 deployed in Krakau. While the rest of the regiment remained engaged in Poland, sometime in the late spring or summer of 1944 I./ ("Cholm")/SS-Pol.Rgt. 25 was transferred to the Steiermark region - August 1944 in Cilli and Laibach, by April 1945 in the Oberkrain region of Slovenia. The photo in question no doubt comes from this time period - sometime around mid-1944 or later. I hope this helps some!
                Best regards,
                Jason

                    Nice Akira!

Wouldn´t it be great to use this thread to show some Cholm Shield holders? Lets post some photos with soldiers wearing this award.

Jason... Thanks a million ! And good to hear from you again! I have very little source regarding Polizei, so I appreciate your help very much!

By the way, there is a thread (silent for quite a while) that shows various Cholm shield in wear.
