    chain stitched pennants

    Hello WAF:
    Thought I'd start a chain stitched pennant
    thread here on the WAF flag & pennant forum.
    I don't collect pennants, as they are so often
    faked. But if I did, chain stitched examples
    would be the type I would seek out. Do feel
    free to post others from your collections, and
    I'll search past threads and repost them here.

      Very nice, thanks for posting your examples,
      especially the cool Mercedes pennant. IMO seldom if
      ever is machine chain stitch embroidery found on fakes.
      The reason is that great experience was/is required
      to sew something upside down, where the design shows
      on the other side of the material after the material is turned
      over, and to have that desired design turn out looking right.
      An example is the post #1 RDF pennant eagle, shown
      more close up below.       This "Basic Chain stitch was made by
      first sending the needle down through the material. Then, as the
      needle rises upward, the friction of the thread against the fabric is
      sufficient to form a small loop on the underside of the material. That
      loop is caught by a circular needle which is beneath the work. The
      machine then moves the material forward projecting the loop on the
      underside from the previous stitch. The next drop of the needle goes
      through the previous loop. The circular needle then releases the first
      loop and picks up the new loop and the process repeats.      " No lock
      stitch bobbin thread is involved, and control was done by a
      360 degree handle. Not something very easy to control with-
      out many hours of embroidery factory worker experence.

                        pennant have chain stitched swastika arms? Looks
                        satin (close zig-zag) stitched IMO. Do post more close
                        up views of corner eagle and center swastika details.

                              OFW - on the RDF flag that I show, the side was unstitched/open, and the stitching could be seen quite easily from the inside . . . another member from the Forum now owns these examples - maybe some day he will see this post, and snap a few photos of the inside of the flag for all to see . . .
