Die Decke- The Blanket-A Soldiers Home

I enjoy collecting personal items that meant a lot to the men in the field and at the front. A soldier's blanket is such an item. To many it is nothing more than a piece of issue wool, not near as sexy as a Ritterkreuz or dagger, but none the less a very essential and important piece of ones' kit.
Over the next week I will try and post photos of original examples showing the wide variety of blankets used by the Wehrmacht, along with original photo documantation.
Anyone else please feel free to add to this thread, correct me where you know I am wrong and add your own pics too. Thanks. Michael

1- Is a typical Kriegsmarine issue, well made, medium weight with embroidered KRIEGSMARINE across the center.

2- Another variation on the KM blanket with the word KRIEGSMARINE woven into the blanket end stripes.

3- Rare U-Boot issue blanket. The canvas tabs and the woven wool loops on the ends has something to do with their hammocks and securing their blanket within it. I have an original photo of this same blanket in use on a U-Boot and I know I will have to find and post it to convince anyone. It is marked with a typical KM Adler and M

4-Classic early war issue blanket with red stripe and blue stripe on ends. These stripes on all military blankets is so to help you discern which end is the long way when making your bed in the dark .
Heavy weight, thick wool . Cant make out the marks on it.
There was a single strand red wool woven into the end of each blanket. This was used as a cut line to cut blankets woven together.

I think this version is a little later and cheaper too. These grey ones are never as thick as the white ones.

Can anyone make out the name?

Both ends are bound with the same blue grey yarn and up each side as far as the stripe.

Really Important for all serious Equipment Collectors. I agree with you that a Blanket is such of those very important Items for the Man in the Field. Thank you and keep on showing us more

Can't wait to see more. I have some examples I can post as well. The gray wool Wehrmacht blanket is one that I am still looking for.

                              Great blankets indeed.

I have also a few to share.

This question was already asked in previous threads but can we reach consensus about the fact that stripes were always "woven into the blanket"?

Or do certain members believe that late(r)-war variants could have the stripes stencilled/painted?

                              Regards
