    Identifying my Side Cap

    Hi all,

Picked up this side cap a couple of years ago. I've finally got my small collection in my new house and finally taken some pictures.

Just wondering if anyone could assist in identifying the exact type (and colour of piping) of side cap this is. It has some slight signs of wear on the exterior which you can't really see in the photos I've taken though.

    Cheers,
    Wallly.

it is a Heer feldmütze (campaign hat) for EM/NCO, and insignias applied on it were oficialy adopted in june 1940.
this feldmütze pattern was officialy replaced in july 1942.
the light blue color of this sidecap's soutache looks to be for transport troops.

Thank you so much for your response! I've been trying to find information on the cap online for ages and didn't come up with anything (I must have been looking in the wrong place!)

      Appreciate your response derka

      Cheers,
      Wallly.

Also the piping looks NON standard..the 722 and 2 other blacked out stamps means after service in WW2..It went and got a job in the props dept of Czech film studios...Billbert

Original Heer EM overseas cap coming from the "Statni Film" studio (the number 722 is typical from this provenance).

I've seen a lot of these cap surfacing in the late 80's without insignia at all.

I believe yours has reapplied insignia and possibly a fake soutache.

            Thanks Billbert and Simon!

That's an interesting development in the identification of this overseas cap. Shame it could be a possible fake soutache. Though I find it interesting it's an original cap then used within a film studio

Just out of interest, with what is known about it now, what sort of going rate would one of these have?

Original cap used by Statni...but that soutache...looks like it was made from silk ribbon, probably for a specific use in a movie or TV show. I have seen field made type soutache before, but I think this example falls way short.

So how did Statni acquire all their goodies? After a quick google search it appears ot just wasnt limited to overseas caps.

There were a reasonable number of SS M43 caps found in the "Statni" hoard. Both EM/NCO & officer piped examples. Many of those still had the original insignia in place,
