    Italo-German Afrika Campaign Medal Ribbon

Hello. Chris was nice enough to let me get this medal reviewed before purchase. I wanted to ask for opinions on the originality (pre 1945) of the ribbon. The ribbon seems newer than the medal. All opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Robert

    (More info added.)
The ribbon passed the blacklight and burn test.

I can't load the pictures. Here is the link.

I bought a really nice Afrika medal a while back, then got a UV light & turns out my ribbon is a repro.
For what it's worth, that ribbon does look better than the medal but the fact that it's a nice early made version & the price (which tempted me despite already having one) means i wouldn't be too worried by the ribbon.
Other side of the argument is though that you rarely see the ribbon for this medal for sale on its own.
All in all though i'd go for it, it's a nice medal & the ribbon is really very little of the overall value anyway.

The ribbon certainly does not appear to be a match to the medal.
      The ribbon looks brand spanking.
There are a lot of repro ribbons for these medals circulating. It is very, very hard to find an original ribbon on it's own.

I disagree with the comment above that the ribbon is not so important.
You try and find a good original ribbon to go with these medals and I think you will be surprised how hard it actually is.

That's exactly what i said, that it's very hard to find an original ribbon for this piece, but if the price is right i don't see the problem.

I will agree, the ribbons are difficult to find. I have 2 or 3 of the medals but only one with the original ribbon. Matt

It took me over a year to get an original ribbon for my Afrika medal.

              Regards,
              Adolph.

                  Hi,

the ribbon exist in two types wide and thin, the wide is postwar
years 50/60. This medal is product from Lorioli on De Marchis graphic
the medal is official and istituited 07/01/1943 with the Mussolini authority.
The medal of the Campaign of German Italian Africa is product also in the
post-war period (the wide ribbon is OK at blacklight years 50) without the
fascio and svastica only conserving the savoy knot, the arc design is the
Fileni to erect from Italian governator Italo Balbo of the Libia.
                  regards

"six italians, dressed in rather unusual diving suits and equipped with materials of laughably little cost have swung the military balance of power in the Mediterranean in favour of the Axis".

dont worry too much. They really are very common medals. You see them for sale all the time.

                        German Italian medal

                        Thanks for the reassurance
I have a few DAK related items & the medal would complement my small display

Hi Hadrian, it's true there are quite a lot of these around, a militaria fair visit will turn one up, but they do seem to be a little overpriced in the UK considering how many you see.
