Finally finished this 3 Volume Masterpiece last night. Apparently this took the author 20 years to complete.
Absolutely amazing. I'm sure if there was a skirmish that took place from 1861 through 1865 related to land or sea, he covered it.
Stunning. Maps of almost every engagement (in fact several for single battles show the day-by-day strategy and actual combat for each day).
If anyone wishes to own a definitive history the the American Civil War, this is it. He also goes behind the scenes and covers the political issues before-during-and after the war.
Just to show you what I'm talking about:
VOLUME 1 - FORT SEMPTER to PERRYVILLE - 840 pages
VOLUME 2 - FREDERICKSBURG to MERIDIAN - 990 pages
VOLUME 3 - RED RIVER to APPOMATTOX - 1110 pages
