    Parachute Salvator D39

This is one of the best gems I have in my collection. I found 2 of these in my city when I was a boy, the second one is now in Paolo Marzetti collection.
Is a rare Italian parachute Salvator D39 used by paratrooper "fanti dell'aria" of Castel Benito and by paratrooper of Tarquina Military School.
    Enjoy it.
    Luca

                    Ciao Luca,

the parcadute Salvator was replaced because many cause
of incidents and this motive is very rare.
The new model was 1941 IF / 41/S.P. (Harness for infantry 1941
School Parachuting)This parachute was very similar to R.Z.16
                    German Ruckepackung zwangauslosung.
                    thanks for sharing cheers, Raffaello

Excellent piece. Any ideas what their pilots wore?

                            Hi Gene!

The pilots with the D39 on their back wore, basically, few types of dress, if we talk about the official stuff. A 'one piece' suit was distribuited to the aircrews till the early 30s, wich design born from the Balbo's cruiser. At that time also a proto-two piece suit was made, but it design doesn't standardized and is possible to see lots of features on (slash or streight pockets zip closure, different shape of collar ... and so on...). Take ispiration from the guys that flown through the atlantic sea, the suit was called 'atlantica'. (more info at post#27 on this thread http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=249403 ). Was made in heavy brown wool with a detachable fur lining.
In 1940 was born the new two piece suit, made in the same way with the same cloth. The cut of the jacket was very 'loose' and comfortable, and a big fur collar provide to keep warm the pilot's throat. Two vertical pocket was on both side of the breast, closed by zip closure on the early model and anything else in the latest. The trousers was streight with two big patch pocket on the legs. Both, jacket and trousers had the detachable lining.
A light summer suit (one or two pieces either), made in white cotton was distribuited to the crews and was made in the same cut of the wool suit. This type of garnment was also wearing by the crewmembers through the WWII and the same thing happened to those. It design born in the 30s with lots of feature and was standardized after the 40s.

The tale could be very long, and if you have some other questions, please, let me knows!!!

                            Cheers, Frank
