    Fake L/19

Here is the fake L/19 I tested with the SEM. I did not expect to find the high silver content because I tested another fake first and it had no silver. I look forward to trying Floch fakes!

    The metal:

The paint - silica of the charts!

That Ek have to be in the high end fakes for that silver frame. I do wounder ho did make it?, not floch im shure. Imo its made by a maker that made them in war times.
I do think one off the makerĀ“s that this EK come whit is correct. Note IMO

Interesting with all the silicon. Modern binders for paint have aluminum and magnesium silicates. The traces of titanium, cobalt, manganese and cerium is interesting as well. Did the paint appear smooth on visual evaluation as well, Marc?

Forgott i have tested some fakes in silver dipp = that **** cleans silver realy nice. I have not tryed that on any geniun EK as i think that will ruin them. The fakes dont get clean in that dipp!. Dont think there is any silver in now days made fakes.

            Tom,
It was smooth but had far less visual noise than the other fake EK. Bone paint is very easy to spot once you are used to it. The main difference between the organic black and the potentially modern black is that while organic was fairly smooth, it did not have as many visual componets as the other.

I own this cross and it does not match the characteristics of the other L/19 crosses on the forum that are known to be original. I understand that this paint does not match the bone paint used in wartime manufacture? Is this the "latvian" fake?

                Jeff,
We honestly do not know enough about the paints to come to any conclusions as to wartime yet. What we can say is this does not have a bone base. It does have good carbon, which may mean it is an organic base - it is just the Si is troubling. The visual cues are bigger detractors as to it being fake than anything else until we learn more.
                Just MHO.
