    Mountain Rucksack Variant Gebirgsjaeger

I purchased this recently from a WW2 veterans estate sale. Appears to be unissued and in very good condition considering the age of 60 odd years. There was a ton of late-war equipment in the haul.

The A-frame webbing appears to be ersatz tropical webbing used on assault frames and belts.

All the buckles are painted in the typical military hardware grey color. I may have paid too much for it, but it just caught my eye, even though I am parting out my Wehrmacht collection for Imperial.

Any input? This is the first one I have seen of this pattern with a RBN code.

quizzical piece..no doubt rbnr marked and war time main bag construction.
i'd venture to say the webbing elements show post war modification.
my prognosis is basic wartime gebirg ruck, upgraded via post war scraps-left-lying-around web pieces.

This is regular issue, military Rucksack, based on pre war model. Of course for Gebirgsjager units, and of course all original. I have the same. You can check my thread "Rucksack variety". It is there. Congrats!

        Thanks for the input!

Steiner, I have to disagree, the pack was constructed like this originally.

I am thinking about putting it up on the E-stand, any input as to what the market value is on these pieces? I would just rather trade it for Imperial items than sell it.

          Servus Paul,

Your rucksack is a standard civilian mountaineering "Tauern Rucksack" made by Deuter of Augsburg. This model was developed in 1934 and used on Himalayan expeditions before the war. Obviously with the RBNr., yours was purchased and used by the military...more than likely for Hochgebirgsjägers or an officer.

I used this model for a period climb in the French Alps last summer. It held up well and was comfortable to wear with 60 lbs. of stuff inside up to 10,000 feet!
