"Nazi State Labor Staff Badge" on E-Stand

If I recall this particular badge did not exist although it is shown in Husken. Does his new catalogue show it still? Regards Robert

Hi Rob, estand threads and pics are not around forever. Always best to post a pic here when discussing a piece ... Cheers, Torsten.

PS: I will be in New Jersey again for a weekend with nothing to do. Want to meet up? Likely to be in Neptune for the weekend 2nd/3rd April.

There's another thread where Yancy confirmed there was no such RAD Abteilung in Brauschweig - hence the badge is a fantasy. Cone was mistaken. Now there are several generations of fakes of this fantasy.

Yes Stephen that was it. What is shown on E-stand could be called a first pattern fantasy. I have one as well. It is cream colored as opposed to white with a period attaching pin plate. With nothing to go by except Cone and Husken catalogue it was perceived to be a period piece instead of fantasy. I am sure there are many in a collection. Thanks for your input Stephen. Robert

I would be very careful using the term Fantasy here.

These badges did exist, and are shown for example in the Period Assmann & Söhne catalog. (see picture here) Just not with this particular division though. So they are not fantasy badges at all, they are very real.

Fakes exist though with made-up unit numbers and names.
Better to clarify it correctly, otherwise people who briefly look over this thread will think that any badge that looks like this is a Fantasy badge, which is of course, Wrong !

                      JR Cone

Worthy of noting here, the picture shown from page 54 of Cones book, READ what he writes, and for those of you that have the book, read the last part of this Braunschweig badges description that is not shown in this picture, Then you will understand that this book contains "Facts" figures and stories plucked out of thin air.

From the grand description of the badge, it would seem everything was well researched and beyond. But we know that everything written was made up. Like most of Cones book, wasted space on the shelf. It`s one thing to add pictures of items you don't know much about and leave it at that, but Cone has made up stories for everything in the book, and figures and amounts that were produced etc... Rubbish at it`s best, accompanied by silly stories. I wonder how many collectors have wasted money because of this book.....

                        Hi Joe,

Well aware of the Assmann example, but the designation on the one everyone sees is completely made up, which is why I called it a fantasy. Such a badge with this unit designation never existed. No doubt the fakers got the idea from the Assmann catalogue and simply made up a non-existent RAD unit.

Whatever non-fantasy unit badges that did exist would be extremely rare, as I recall Yancy noted there were only about 300 people in an RAD Abteilung, so demand and production would be very limited.

                        Cheers,

                        Stephen

Hi Steven, yes i know, we talked about them on wwm, a year or so back, BUT, all the posts up until mine were only saying FANTASY... So for any newcomer to land on this thread, he would get the impression that badges like This did not exist, after all, that is what a fantasy is, a post was Figure of some eastern Europeans crack-filled imagination.

Which these are clearly not. They existed in this exact design, color shape and size. Only difference is the bogus unit, so these Braunschweig unit marked badges should be referred to as a fake and by no means a Fantasy.
