    Panzer M-43 Cap

I just received this panzer EM cap, and am pleased with it. No story behind it, just something I got in a trade.

I like the construction. Biase tape inside the scallops, solid seams that have not been tampered with, grey-green artificial silk lining that shows wear consistent with the outer wool, machine (correctly) sewn M43 trap.

The wool is that fine quality type that you see on earlier wraps and headgear.

    Opinions are welcome.

    regards, Robert

Mr. Singer, I know you are a man of few words, but I would appreciate some of the flags you've spotted. PM is fine, and thanks for looking.

I am not a fan of the buttons, trap, and marking. The construction looks nice but I think it is a very good fake. My opinion only.

                    Thanks, Frank

Frank, thanks for taking the time to comment. I know the last one of these I posted took page before it was finally pronounced original, and lots of folks are cautious about these (for good reason).

For discussions sake, my comments below:

"I am not a fan of the buttons -"

They are standard hollow-back zinc buttons, and appear originally sewn. They have tin or aluminum fronts crimped over the standard grey zinc backs, and look to be A (Assmann) marked.

                      "trap - "

This style trap with the jagged back on the eagle has been reviewed and approved as original on a number of panzer M43s shown on the forum. It is a known original design. The method of attachment whereby the trap is first sewn across the top, then folded down and straight-stitched on is correct.

                      "...and marking"

I would need to know what about the font and size of the size marking is off to address this.

It's really tough asking for comments about such a cap when not in hand. The wear to this cap and (to me) construction features make this a solid original.

                      s/f Robert

Always a tough call with these unless obvious fakes which I don't think this one is. Bryon probably knows better but as always he's not saying and that's why we love and hate him in equal measure!
The main thing I don't like is the stitching on the trap. Just my opinion but it looks like someone has tried to mimic machine sewn stitches but it's not quite right to my eye. Also, the staining on the lining is just a little weird.
I'm not condemning it by any means. Handling these things before making up your mind is paramount.

                            Robert,

I am sorry if I seen a little biased. I tend to compare other M43 caps to mine which is not always fair.

                            Kindest Regards,

                            Frank
