    FJ portrait - where from?

I found this picture on the internet, while researching FJ helmet camo patterns.

Does anyone recognize this picture, and know when and where it was taken (what unit)? Are there any other pics from the same unit from the same time? I am very interested in the camo technique used on this helmet, as it is similar to other LW helmets we have unearthed in Norway recently.

    Thanks,

    Giday everyone,

The camouflage pattern shown in the photograph remnds me of the helmets worn by paratroopers, glidermen and glider pilots belonging to Sturmabteilung Koch.

To the best of my knowledge no paratroopers or glidermen of Sturmabteilung saw any action in Norway. However several of the glider pilots participted in a planned mission to supply mountaintroops fighting around Narvik.

May I ask were the helmets were found and how many were there?

    Best wishes,

    Ian

      Narvik,

The photograph appears in the book Green Devils! by Jean-Yves Nasse.
It is on page 91 of the book.

From the description on page 84, it is a portrait of one of Witzig's engineers, taken whilst they were quartered in Ivry-la-Bataille. It was taken by a local photographer who ran a studio in nearby Anet.

There are claims that these photographs were taken in the Autumn of 1943, however, some are convinced that they were taken in June 1944.

Hope this is of some help to you,
      All the best,

      Gareth

          Link

Thanks, gentlemen, for taking the time to answer my question. The depth of knowledge here is fantastic. I knew I would get a quick and reliable answer from you!

Here is the link to the helmet I am refering to. There are pics or links to other similar helmets. This is a very rare bird, however, and that is why I am trying to find period documentation of this kind of camouflage.

B&W pics of Norwegian LW helmets

If anyone has seen period pictures of LW helmets with this kind of camouflage, or indeed know of any in collections, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Here is my helmet, in black and white (the color pics are on the thread provided earlier here).

              Another Norway find

This is another of the same type of camo from Norway. See posted thread above for more pics.
