    Hi All

I have a Alexander Coppel Police stag horn bayonet matching numbers with S.St1033. Can anyone help me identify this.

Schutzpolizei of Stettin #1033. The weapon inventory number is a bit high for this area though.

The blade spine has 33 stamped on it does this make a difference.:

Is there a sunburst K stamped on the spine near the crossguard, as well as on the bottom scabbard fitting?

          Hi Joe

Yes there is a sunburst K stamped on the spine near the crossguard, but can't see any similar mark on the scabbard fitting. Have noted number 133 on blade spine and matching number on scabbard neck, but matching numbers S.St1033on crossguard and top of scabbard.

It is a period issue piece.

The bayonet was adopted in 1929 and the markings in 1932 by the Prussian state police. After the consolidation of police power within the SS in 1936, the new III Reich police insignia of an eagle within an oak leaf wreath was adopted and a small version began to replace the Prussian suburst on the grip plate. Within a few years, the bayonets were further modified by removing a decorative clamshell guard at the crossguard and shortening 10cm including the scabbard.

Wolfman, welcome to WAF! If you are able and willing, it would be great to see some photos of you police bayonet in question and anything else polizei related!

in regard to your questions, you have received some of the best input from a couple of our most knowledgeable members that are actually authors of very informative reference on the subject! And if you are interested in collecting and learning more about police bayonets, you should get a copy of Seitengewehr: History of the German Bayonet 1919-1945 by George Wheeler and also check out Chapter 6 by Joseph Wotka that appears in Volume 5 of the Johnson series Collecting the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich.

                      Hi

Thanks for the welcome to the group. I have not set up any pictures as yet as very busy at moment. I will try and buy the books you mentioned and I will keep up the good work of collecting Police items.
